Santo Varni - Allegory of Faith
Sonnets for Heaven's Queen

Virgo Fidelis

Faith is my Son, my one and only Child,
Though all that have received Him at my hand
My own true children also may be styled,
Who come to Him through me, from every land.

For, the Spirit of Truth, my Holy Spouse,
In me engendered the eternal Word
Who deigned to dwell within my sinless house,
As, by my troth, I trusted and I heard.

But now the swindlers of a self-based faith,
To their own greed and avarice ordained,
Children of Eve, of vengeance, and of wrath,
The honor of the one true Priest have stained.

To you, who hear and keep God’s word, I give
The crown that these forsake, that you shall live.
